29 June 2006 Homework

June 29, 2006

This morning we took our connection progression projects and posted them to our webpages. working with photoshop, imageready, and dreamweaver we were able to set them up for our crit on friday.

During our break i went to the uReserve office and confirmed my reservation for my shotgun mic. i then submitted a special request for the canon xl mini camera which should go thru next week. i’ll set up a meeting with Pat this weekend to start taking sound clips around the city.

After break amy taught us more tips for photoshop and dreamweaver. after class i worked on dreamweaver to set up my site. amy helped me to link my godaddys.com domain name (tysonandrew.com) to my parsons account. so now if you go to tysonandrew.com it will take you to my a.parsons.edu site. she then taught us how to mask a phot and use the gradient tool and clone tool. another tip… serif and sans-serif… i finally know the difference!

post class i worked on my blog and am waiting for the ‘Thursday Homework’ to be posted on the SV site. it is around 7pm and nothing yet. i will be ready for my crit tomorrow and will play around with some of my CPs until then. i’d like to eventually post my homework on my site each night for the following day. hope i can keep up.

i look forward to this weekend. i’ll get the chance to use the shotgun mic around the city. i plan to get sounds of nyc from the deepest darkest subway squatter shack to the top of the empire state building. it’ll be a great way to see and hear this city that is so new to me.

28 Jun 2006 Homework

I learned a lot using Photoshop and WordPress in today’s sessions. As usual i found out that you can never know too much about Photoshop. The masking tool and many of the short-cut key commands were totally new to me. It’s easy to see that Dana really knows her way around Photoshop.

I was especially impressed with the potential WordPress could reach. It’s an excellent tool to use during our summer session. I am in the process of adding photographs and extra pages. I just signed on as a member to Photobucket.com which makes it really easy to import photos to post as tag lines to my blog. i will probably have to sit down and download many of my archived photos to photobucket so i can upload them to my blog. it is really exciting how i am able to use so many different programs in making one single site. everything streamlines together to really make the final product pop.

Tonight i will work on more sequences for the projects due in a few days. I was able to post small .jpg images of 2 sequences I’m working on. eventually, I’d like to be able to click on the tiny sequence link on the main page and another window pops up with the full size sequence there for the viewer to observe. all in due time.

depending on my connection speed at home I’ll try to jazz up my blog site a little more before i go to bed. I’d also to create a sequence using photos I’ve take a few months ago.

looking forward next class.

27 June 2006 Homework

Response to the articles: What resonated for you? Why? What did you find most interesting? Also, did any of the reading inspire you to want to design/code something specific? Did it make sense? What made sense? What didn’t make sense?

After reading the webmonkey articles i was inspired to get to work on my site ASAP. I appreciate the no-nonsense approach the staff uses when writting their articles. It reminds me of those yellow ‘internet for dummies’ books found in local bookstores. They cut straight to the chase and give real world examples of how to set up and rev up your site.

I found the Web Graphics Overview portion of the readings most interesting. They explained the difference between bitmap (or raster) graphics and vector graphics. I was unaware that vector graphics had to be converted to bitmap (rasterized) before being displayed on the web.

All these articles will help me design my site with all kinds of media including sound, video, flash, and possibly a podcast. The difficult part will be making the transition over to another server after i am finished for this summer. If i could work a deal with Parsons to keep the server space that would be great. I also have to purchase a domain name on godaddy.com to be able to link up with my parsons server space.

I want to continue learning good habits in order to build a strong portfolio. I will continue to work hard to do the best i can to work in that direction here and in London this fall. My goal is to be able to incorporate applications such as photoshop, illustrator, indesign, dreamweaver, flash, director, finalcut, and many more in order to present the most up-to-date representation of my work.
