I am in the middle of wrapping up my first term at Central St. Martins School of Design. It’s been difficult adjusting to my new environment. There is a different way of teaching over here. On monday mornings our professor gives use an hour long pep talk then for the rest of the week we are all totally on our own to finish our projects in the metal, wood, and plastics shops. The tech-people in each workshop do the best they can to help but it is difficult to get a small segment of their time. The building is dirty, drafty, and we have no computer rooms b/c last year a student vandalized all the computers.
At Parsons in NYC i had a class of 8 students with two professors. who walked us through each lesson. the building was new and clean with the fastest computers on the market. it was free to print and the labs were never crowded.
i am having fun over here and learning completely on my own…although slowly…is a good thing. i’ll has a different perspective when i return to nyc that’s for sure.
now that i’ll have more free time to update my blog i’ll check in more often.
